Fat Joe

fat_joe“Fat Joe” Scapinii: Revolutionary Business Owner, Legendary Artist

Jade Dragon Tattoo and Body Piercing Studio was created by visionary artist “Fat Joe” Scapini in 1980. Joe says that his love of tattoos stemmed from the fascination he held tracing and studying his father’s tattoos; then his love was solidified when he received his first in 1976.

After years of studying and perfecting his art, he opened Jade Dragon Tattoo and Body Piercing and took the industry by storm. Known throughout Chicago for his talent, Joe forged ahead, demanding a high level of hygiene and cleanliness instilled in his shop and in every artist and piercer.

Joe invented the “toss-a-tube” system where every client receives a brand new needle barrel, tubes and ink, which was observed and adopted by other safety conscious shops. Under his leadership, Jade Dragon Tattoo and Body Piercing has grown to be the largest tattoo and piercing studio in Chicago.

“Fat Joe” Scapini’s Legacy Lives On Today

“Fat Joe” Scapini started one of the safest tattoo shops, staffed with some of the most talented artists and piercers in the country. However, in 2007 Joe lost his battle with congestive heart failure and diabetes at the young age of 47. His legacy lives on not only through his talented staff, but also his wife and children who continue to work and run Jade Dragon Tattoo and Body Piercing Studio.

The family keeps Joe’s dream and vision alive by continuing to maintain the cleanest, safest tattoo and piercing studio in Chicago , while delivering original, outstanding works of art.

Joe’s quick wit and kind heart can still be felt within the Jade Dragon walls as thousands of clients return again and again for their unique piece of art in the safest, most comfortable, family-run studio in Chicago.
