The Chicago Tattoo scene lost a true icon Friday August 24th 2007 – Joseph “Fat Joe” Scapin, owner and founder of Jade Dragon Tattoo and Body Piercing. "Fat Joe" lost his battle with congestive heart failure and diabetes. Joe was 47 years old.

"Fat Joe" opened Jade Dragon Tattoo in 1980 and quickly earned a reputation for running one of the cleanest studio in the business at a time when tattooing was a largely unregulated industry. Turning Jade Dragon Tattoo into the biggest, best, and cleanest tattoo studio in Chicago.

Joe was known for his attention to detail, hard work, and great body art, but also his quick wit and kind heart.

His incredible legacy will CONTINUE at Jade Dragon Tattoo through his wife, Cindy, son Joe Jr. and daughter Angie, and all of the professional tattoo artists that learned from his example.
