Why It’s Important to Select the Right Tattoo

Whether it’s your first or your 20th, choosing the right tattoo is an important decision. With the millions of styles and designs, selecting the right piece of art can be dizzying. Plus, your tattoo will remain on your body for the rest of your life, making the decision even more daunting.

Before you make a decision, consider several factors:

Artist and studio: only work with highly qualified, trained artists who can interpret your vision into a quality tattoo
Inspiration: although today you may think the Powerpuff girls may be rad, 10 years down the road, you may not want to look down on your ankle and see Buttercup staring back at you. Think longevity and how your tattoo will transition through the years
Design: tribal or Asian to religious or portrait, which design says the most about YOU?
Tattoo interpretation: you’ve heard the urban legend about the girl who gets Japanese characters tattooed on her neck thinking it says, “peace” when it actually doesn’t – know exactly what your characters mean
Another extremely important factor to consider is studio hygiene. Unsanitary conditions can lead to disease – never settle for a studio that doesn’t practice strict hygiene. Ensure that the place you go to insists on all customers receiving a new needle, barrel and ink.

Proper Tattoo Care Keeps Your Ink Looking its Best!

Caring for your fresh tattoo is vital to maintaining its integrity, color and design. The first few hours and days following your ink session are crucial, but Jade Dragon has a formula for success:

During the initial hours following ink application, your tattoo will be delicate; so treat it gently while it heals to maintain the design integrity
Take bandage off 2 hours after being tattooed and gently wash ointment off the tattoo. Use only mild soap such as Zest, Coast or Ivory – never use anti-bacterial soap. Rinse and pat dry
Apply “Preparation H Ointment” to your new tattoo 8 to 10 times daily, for 2 weeks, using clean fingers
Never pick or scratch a freshly tattooed area – if scabs form, leave them alone
Once you’ve removed the bandage, do not re-bandage. However, do not expose your new tattoo to the sun, chlorinated water, dirt, grease or chemicals. Wear protective garments if necessary
